Pokey, only bay area show I could find which opens a 2nd set with Jed is 2/22/74 - no wonder your mind was fried:

02-22-74 Winterland Arena, San Francisco, Ca. (Fri)

1: U. S. Blues, BIODTL, B. E. Women, Mexicali, Roses, B. T. Wind, TLEO, Big River, Loose Lucy, El Paso, Row Jimmy, Playin
2: Tennessee Jed, Me & My Uncle, Ship Of Fools, Race Is On, China Cat> I Know You Rider, Truckin> Nobody's Fault> GDTRFB
3: Half Step, Promised, Brokedown, Jack Straw, Eyes> China Doll> Wharf Rat> Sugar Magnolia
E: Uncle John's

My T Jed surprise: 10/31/85 Columbia SC - After the crazy Finiculli>Warewolves>Music opener aabout 3/4 way through 1st set they play T Jed and it seems like the first time I heard it in 100 years. I had just totaly forgotten they ever wrote the song. Enjoyed it greatly - never had that happen to me with any other tune. Even rare ones.

Sad to say, 74 was before my time. Had to be somwhere between 78 and probably 82, but thanks for looking.

It might not have been the first song of the set. I have a story somewhat similar to yours from Buffalo 9-26-81 - my one and only 'bad trip' - where I "came to" in the middle of Looks Like Rain. They'd been playing for almost an hour but I didn't hear one note of it, wherever it was I'd been ...

You may have been someplace like that, or maybe it was just an unusually long tuning break between songs.

A '74 TJ was my ticket to the bus. I was a complete novice just gawking at everything going on around me when all of I sudden it was like a light switch going off in my head.
